Señorío de Vizcántar is our family’s personal favorite – without question.
Señorío has a warm fruity flavor with just the right amount of spice. It is superb for crisp green salads, or dipping with a crust of bread. But please don’t treat it like liquid gold – it is something to enjoy every day as part of a healthy Mediterranean diet.
Our search to find a worthy extra virgin olive oil for the La Tienda community led us to Fermín Rodríguez. He is one of the master tasters in Priego de Cordoba who annually determine which of the local olive oils earn the Denomination of Origen (D.O.) for this historic town.
For La Tienda Fermín creates a Special Selection coupage of the most aromatic and fruity oils of the early harvest. The three olive oil varietals in our blend are Picudo, a fresh, fruity oil; Hojiblanca, a mild, floral oil; and Picual, a peppery, bold oil. Our friend Fermín painstakingly experiments with different blends until he arrives at the perfect balance of herbal, fruity and peppery flavors.
Think of Señorío as you would a full-bodied red wine. As wine is the product of the juice of crushed grapes, in a similar way extra virgin olive oil is the juice of freshly cold pressed olives. But be forewarned! Just as it is hard to go back to drinking table wine once you have tasted something better, so also your days of selecting mass produced olive oil at the supermarket may soon come to an end once you realize in Señorío a new world of flavor and excellence.
The olive groves of the Rodríguez family surround Priego de Córdoba, one of the most striking of the white towns of Andalucía. Formerly a Moorish fortress and then a site for silk traders in the Middle Ages, Priego de Cordoba is located on a hilltop deep in the rugged Sierras Sabaticas Mountains. It is flanked by acres of olive groves in every direction - with Córdoba to the north, Granada an hour away to the East and the Mediterranean city of Málaga to the south.
